I was so excited to see Alice Wu was directing again. “Saving Face” made me feel seen and understood at a time when I was finding myself. Listening to her talk about every detail here is mesmerizing. The half of it alice wu. So we are going to have a part 2 then 🥳. There are many elements in the beautiful youth film, such as love, friendship, orientation, future, family relationship, poor campus standard, embarrassment and dilemma of immigrants. However, it is very natural and well-organized, and music is good, in a word, even if we do not consider these elements, it is worth telling a good story. The half of it watch. The Half of st andrews. The half of it ellie and paul. I want a second movie in a couple of years. Okay, so hear me out, I'm not saying that the movie is awful, but the idea of paying 50 for a love letter was really dumb and the scene where Ellie and Paul were both in church even though Ellie said she doesn't believe in God. But that's not the worst part of the movie. What actually made me hate this movie was the dialog between Paul and Aster on their date. It was so cringe, that I honestly just wanted to stop watching the movie at that point. Whenever Aster said something to Paul, he just repeated the last word and didn't say anything else, he was literally killing the conversation non stop. I understand that there are people who are nervous during the date and this situation was supposed to be relatable, but the Paul's nervousness was way too exaggerated. I would have rated the movie with 1 star, but the part with Ellie and Aster was actually interesting therefore I'm going to raise my rating to 4.

Sis, i have seen a lot of pictures about Leah and Alexxis, the way they interact in social media, their videos, everything. How can you not ship them in real life too? Because for me it's too hard. I find it interesting that Alice Wu's perspective on visually representing the text messages was that a motion tracked animated graphic would be less likely to date the film. In Bo Burnham's feature 8th Grade, he decided to film the literal phone screen rather than animating graphics because according to him it felt more authentic. Ironically I think Wu's approach dates the film just as much as showing the model of phone due to the fact that it's a pretty popular way to represent text messaging at the moment. I just find it interesting the reasoning behind each filmmakers approach to incorporating phones into the mise en scene.
